Структурированной информации о русском дизайне до революции очень мало, на что указывает список литературы в конце рецензируемой книги. Получается, что книгу Елены Черневич можно назвать первым серьезным исследованием на эту тему. Примечательно то, что книга делалась на экспорт и впервые вышла в свет в 1990 году в Англии, а вслед за тем — в США, Италии и Японии. И только в 1997 году книга издаётся в России.
