The bright future of green IoT will change our tomorrow environment to become healthier and green, with very high quality of service that is socially, environmentally, and economically sustainable. This book covers the most recent advances in IoT, it discusses Smart City implementation, and offers both quantitative and qualitative research.

It focuses on greening things such as green communication and networking, green design and implementations, green IoT services and applications, energy saving strategies, integrated RFIDs and sensor networks, mobility and network management, the cooperation of homogeneous and heterogeneous networks, smart objects, and green localization.

The term ‘Internet of Things’ was first coined by Kevin Ashton as the title of a PowerPoint presentation. Kevin had shared an idea of using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chips on consumer goods for the automatic tracking of stock levels in storehouses. Afterwards, IoT became an emerging concept and revolutionized the world by connecting billions of devices together. The IoT devices work by sensing, collecting, and transmitting the vital information gathered from the surroundings. However, massive energy is consumed in exchanging and sharing information amongst billions of devices, along with emission of radiation and greenhouse gases by these IoT devices. Green usually means “planning and investing in a technology network that serves the needs of today as well as today’s needs while conserving energy and saving money”.

The Green Internet of Things focuses primarily on the energy efficiency and the reliability of the IoT concepts. Green IoT is defined as the energy-efficient way in IoT to either reduce or eradicate the green-house effect caused by existing applications. Green IoT (G-IoT) is the process of efficiently producing, developing, disposing of computers, servers, using and associating subsystems (i.e., printers, displays, communications equipment and storage devices), with a reduced negative impact on society and the environment. Going for green IoT requires new resources to reduce the negative impact of IoT on human health and climate disruption.

This book with its wide range of related topics in IoT and Smart City, will be useful for graduate students, researchers, academicians, institutions, and professionals that are interested in exploring the areas of IoT and Smart City.
