This book presents a step by step Asset Health Management Optimization Approach Using Internet of Things (IoT). The authors provide a comprehensive study which includes the descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analysis in detail. The presentation focuses on the challenges of the parameter selection, statistical data analysis, predictive algorithms, big data storage and selection, data pattern recognition, machine learning techniques, asset failure distribution estimation, reliability and availability enhancement, condition based maintenance policy, failure detection, data driven optimization algorithm, and a multi-objective optimization approach, all of which can significantly enhance the reliability and availability of the system.

By some estimates, 26 billion devices will be connected to the Internet by 2020. This is a major shift in way of life, information gathering and sharing, decision-making, and planning. This revolution is propelled by several technological advancements in recent years. As a starter, embedded systems, which connect hardware and software, have experienced a major leap in increased local processing power, low overhead Windows and Linux operating systems that can run on a chip, and also on development and deployment of low overhead data protocols. Examples of these protocols that can be run on low-cost embedded boards include Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) and Advanced Message Queuing Protocol (AMQP). Another major development in recent years is the development of faster and lower-power wireless communications. 1G enabled voice transmission, 2G enabled texting, 3G enabled video transfer, and 4G enabled video streaming. 5G promises to revolutionize data transmission by providing higher speed and bandwidth to connect every device to the Internet. The last component is the significant advancement in development and deployment of cloud computing. Data from any system, machine, plant, or factory can be sent to data network and cloud gateway to use the enormous computation power and cloud functions.
