Название: The Psychology of Eating and Drinking: 3rd Edition
Автор: Alexandra Woods Logue
Издательство: Routledge
Год: 2004
Формат: pdf
Страниц: 376
Размер: 3 MB
Язык: English

Our fascination with eating and drinking behaviors and their causes has resulted in a huge industry of food-related pop science. Every bookstore, every magazine stand, every grocery store checkout counter is filled with publications about how to get your child to eat vegetables, how to tell if someone has an eating disorder or, most commonly, how to lose weight. But the degree to which any of these is based on scientific research is very limited. In contrast to the literature for the general reader, the scientific research on eating and drinking behaviors is usually too technical for the general reader.

Название: The Invasion from Mars: A Study in the Psychology of Panic
Автор: Hadley Cantril, Albert Cantril
Издательство: Transaction Publishers
Год: 1940
Формат: pdf
Страниц: 224
Размер: 7 MB
Язык: English

On Halloween night 1938, Orson Welles broadcast a radio adaptation of the H. G. Wells fantasy, The War of the Worlds. What listeners heard sounded so realistic that at least a million were frightened by word that ''strange creatures'' from Mars had landed in central New Jersey and were ''unleashing a deadly assault.'' Several thousand were so terrified they ran into the streets, drove away in their cars, or called the police for information about how to escape. Why did so many panic when the circumstances reported were so improbable? That is just the question Hadley Cantril, then a young social psychologist, set out to answer. Using a mix of research methods, Cantril shows that the impact of the broadcast had less to do with what went out over the air than with the ''standards of judgment'' people did or did not use in evaluating what they were hearing.

PRINCIPLES OF TOPOLOGICAL PSYCHOLOGY by KURT LEWIN. Originally published in 1936. PREFACE by DR. WOLFGANG KOHLER Swarthmore College Swarthmore: DEAR KOHLER This book is the result of a very slow growth. I remember the moment when more than ten years ago it occurred to me that the figures on the blackboard which were to illustrate some problems for a group in psychology might after all be not merely illustrations but representations of real concepts. Much interested in the theory of science, I had already in 1912 as a student defended the thesis against a then fully accepted philo sophical dictum that psychology, dealing with manifolds of coexist ing facts, would be finally forced to use not only the concept of time but that of space too. Knowing something of the general theory of point sets, I felt vaguely that the young mathematical discipline topology might be of some help in making psychology a real science. I began studying topology and making use of its concepts, which soon appear
