Professional resource providing an introduction to R coding for actuarial and financial mathematics applications, with real-life examples. R Programming for Actuarial Science provides a grounding in R programming applied to the mathematical and statistical methods that are of relevance for actuarial work. The overriding objective of this book is to help students of actuarial mathematics and related disciplines such as financial mathematics, develop programming skills which will enhance their understanding of actuarial, financial, and statistical concepts, enabling them to solve real-world problems encountered in these fields. Breaking this down further, the purposes of the book is two-fold: 1) To provide an introduction to the programming language, R. This is achieved using worked examples and undertaking exercises commonly seen in the fields of actuarial and financial mathematics; 2) Secondly, to improve the reader’s level of understanding of actuarial and financial topics by using these programming skills.

Since its first appearance, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been ensuring revolutionary outcomes in the context of real-world problems. At this point, it has strong relations with biomedical and today’s intelligent systems compete with human capabilities in medical tasks. However, advanced use of artificial intelligence causes intelligent systems to be black-box. That situation is not good for building trustworthy intelligent systems in medical applications. For a remarkable amount of time, researchers have tried to solve the black-box issue by using modular additions, which have led to the rise of the term: interpretable artificial intelligence. As the literature matured (as a result of, in particular, deep learning), that term transformed into Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI). This book provides an essential edited work regarding the latest advancements in Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) for biomedical applications. It includes not only introductive perspectives but also applied touches and discussions regarding critical problems as well as future insights.

This book aims to provide information about significant advances of Fuzzy Logic in software systems to researchers, scientists, educators, students, software engineers and developers. In particular, this book explains how Fuzzy Logic, can be used in software systems to automatically predict, model, decide, diagnose, recommend etc.. In more details, Fuzzy Logic is an artificial intelligent technique that is ideal for successfully addressing, , the uncertainty, imprecision and vagueness that exist in many diverse scientific and technological areas. It was introduced by Lotfi A. Zadeh of the University of California at Berkeley, as a methodology for computing with words. This ability of Fuzzy Logic allows the representation of imprecise and vague data in a more realistic way. Therefore, Fuzzy Logic-based systems can simulate the human reasoning and decision-making processes, addressing the human subjectivity. Fuzzy Logic-based software systems are referred to any software that concerns an automated program or process that is used in everyday life, like heating or air-conditioning system, or in the scientific world, like a medical diagnostic system, which uses Fuzzy Logic in order to perform reasoning. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the process of making machines to think and to do tasks like humans. It includes advanced technologies that make machines more intelligent and capable of performing tasks more efficiently and reliable. There is a variety of AI techniques including Machine Learning, artificial neural networks, Deep Learning, knowledge representation and reasoning techniques. An AI technique is Fuzzy Logic, which allows reasoning in cases where there is uncertainty, vagueness, imprecision and/or subjectivity.

Updated for iOS 17. SwiftUI is radically different from UIKit. In this short book, we will help you build a mental model of how SwiftUI works. We explain the most important concepts in detail and help you build a solid foundation for understanding SwiftUI. Since SwiftUI is a large framework, the book focuses on the concepts behind the framework that we believe are essential to understand. It is not a reference for SwiftUI’s platform-specific APIs, but rather a guide to honing your intuition about how SwiftUI works. Thinking in SwiftUI is geared toward developers who have both prior experience with Apple’s platforms and a good understanding of the Swift language. When SwiftUI came out, it was a radical departure from UIKit. We wrote the first edition of this book to help you build a mental model of the way SwiftUI works. A few years have passed since then, and we’ve had the opportunity to teach this material to many teams of developers, large and small. During this process, we continued to improve and refine our approach of explaining SwiftUI’s fundamentals based on the feedback from the workshops. This new edition of Thinking in SwiftUI is the result of that journey: we rewrote the entire book from the ground up to be on par with the way we teach SwiftUI in our workshops.

If you're a jаvascript developer struggling to get to grips with TypeScript or use it effectively in your projects, this book will guide you in making the most of this powerful language and its latest features, and help you overcome some common misunderstandings and pitfalls. TypeScript 5.0 is a major advancement to the user-friendliness and flexibility of the language. It nudges us toward better coding practices, promotes cleaner code, and catches potential errors before they become a headache. It's a great time to start using TypeScript, but if you're a jаvascript developer struggling to get to grips with the language or use it effectively in your projects, this short book is for you. It will guide you in making the most of this powerful language and its latest features, and help you overcome some common misunderstandings and pitfalls. Many of the example React applications we see tend to be small and easily understandable. But in the real world, React apps tend to grow to a scale that makes it impossible for us to keep all of the context in our head. This can often lead to unexpected bugs when a given value isn’t what we thought it would be. That object you thought had a certain property on it? It turns out it ended up being undefined somewhere along the way. That function you passed in? Yeah, that’s undefined too. This book is for intermediate-level jаvascript developers who want to get to grips with the powerful features that TypeScript offers.
