There’s three main steps in the software engineering process. I like to sum them up in 3 D’s: discover, design, and deliver. There is of course the fourth, and arguably most important, D: document. Documentation is critical in software engineering, if you do not document your contracts, features, and technology the software will be nigh impossible to maintain in the future.

This book is aimed at people who are looking to build an app to solve a problem. It is not for people who want to build a simple app to show their friends. In this book, you will be learning about how to build an app at an enterprise scale that will support over a million users.

This book is meant to be a practical guide for you to understand how to do each of these steps in plain English. This can be used in an interactive manner, I’m going to give you many questions to answer in each of the sections so that when you’re done with this book you can be ready to build your million user app.
