Название: MATLAB Recipes for Earth Sciences, Fifth Edition Автор: Martin H. Trauth Издательство: Springer Год: 2021 Страниц: 526 Язык: английский Формат: pdf (true) Размер: 10.7 MB
MATLAB is used in a wide range of geoscientific applications, e.g. for image processing in remote sensing, for creating and processing digital elevation models, and for analyzing time series. This book introduces readers to MATLAB-based data analysis methods used in the geosciences, including basic statistics for univariate, bivariate and multivariate datasets, time-series analysis, signal processing, the analysis of spatial and directional data, and image analysis. The revised and updated Fifth Edition includes seven new sections, and the majority of the chapters have been rewritten and significantly expanded.
This revised and updated Fifth Edition includes new sections on error analysis, aligning stratigraphic sequences, calculating vegetation indices, log-ratio transformations to overcome the closed-sum problem of compositional data, graphical representation and statistics of spherical data. Many of the pre-existing sections have also been expanded and rewritten, and numerous new example data sets have been included. This takes into account new developments in MATLAB, such as the Live Editor and App Designer, and the datastore family of functions for importing mixed data. Some MATLAB algorithms have also been modified, for example, to take into account changes in satellite data and in data sets used for digital terrain models.
The MATLAB software, which has been in existence for more than 40 years, is used since it not only provides numerous ready-to-use algorithms for most methods of data analysis but also allows the existing routines to be modified and expanded, or new software to be developed. MATLAB is also used because, unlike free alternatives, it offers a warranty, complete and up-to-date documentation, professional support with a guaranteed response time of less than one working day, and the ability to certify computer code. However, most methods are introduced with very simple codes before any MATLAB-specific functions are used, so that users of free alternatives to MATLAB will also appreciate the book.
