With multiple distributions, evolving cloud services, and complex deployment considerations, navigating Linux in Azure can be overwhelming. Linux on Azure: A Practical Guide equips IT professionals, cloud architects, and DevOps engineers with the knowledge and strategies they need to deploy, manage, and optimize Linux-based workloads with confidence.

This guide explores key Azure services and how they integrate with Linux to provide enhanced performance, security, and scalability. Covering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Ubuntu, SUSE, and Azure Linux, it provides a clear road map for running everything from cloud native and AI-driven applications to mission-critical enterprise workloads. Whether you're migrating existing systems or building new solutions, this book delivers the practical insights and hands-on strategies needed to streamline operations, reduce costs, and unlock the full power of Linux on Azure.

There is one other flavor of Linux that is a bit different from the usual vendor distributions you’ll find in the Azure Marketplace, and that is Azure Linux. Azure Linux is an open-source Linux distribution originally developed under the project name CBL-Mariner. The distribution is meant for internal use by Microsoft on Azure and at the edge. Azure Linux is a lightweight distribution serving as a common core for packages to be layered on top depending on its intended purpose. The goal behind Azure Linux is to provide a streamlined version of Linux that has a low deployment footprint, reduced attack surface, and a focus on security by default configurations. Microsoft is responsible for fully testing and vetting each release of Azure Linux to ensure stability, security, and performance. Microsoft currently uses Azure Linux internally on the Azure Stack HCI version of Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure IoT Edge, and most recently as a host option for Azure Kubernetes Service.

Understand IaaS, PaaS, and cloud native deployment options
