Название: Writing for Animation, Comics, and Games, 2nd Edition Автор: Christy Marx Издательство: CRC Press Год: 2022 Страниц: 313 Язык: английский Формат: pdf (true) Размер: 10.8 MB
This second edition of Writing for Animation, Comics, and Games expounds on the previous edition with more information on how to construct narratives for these three forms of visual storytelling media. Christy Marx’s book offers an in-depth look into scriptwriting and how to break into each of the featured industries. The text goes into detail on visual storytelling: how to compose exterior storytelling (animation, games) and interior/exterior storytelling (comics and graphic novels); as well as considerations for non-linear videogames. The advice within these pages can be used to build a transmedia career across animation, comics, graphic novels, and videogames.
More and more companies, especially with TV series, are requiring writers who work on their shows to use scriptwriting software. There are various pieces of scriptwriting software such as Movie Magic Screenwriter and Celtx, but so far, every company that has required me to use scriptwriting software has used Final Draft, whether it was a live-action show or an animated show. Final Draft is prevalent on live-action shows and rapidly becoming prevalent in animation, including theatrical features.
The first thing to know about writing for games is that there are no standardized formats for game scripts. There is no such thing as “a game script.” This is especially true when dealing with dialogue writing where every company may have its own unique method or some proprietary software that is used to create and incorporate dialogue. If you’re an in-house writer (full-time employee), there may be specialized game engine tools you’ll use to create your material, or you may simply end up using Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. If there is any one piece of software I’d advise you to know for narrative Design or game writing, it’s Excel. Excel is popular for a couple of reasons: (1) nearly everybody has it; (2) programmers can plug information directly from Excel into other game engines or programs. Excel spreadsheets aren’t designed for writing and are less than ideal for that purpose, but they are used extensively in games.
