The ESP8266 is a low-cost Wi-Fi microchip with full TCP/IP stack and microcontroller capability produced by manufacturer Espressif Systems in Shanghai, China. This book looks at this microcontroller using the Wemos Mini and a variety of small shields to enhance the functionality of the board. The WeMos D1 mini is a miniature wireless Wifi microcontroller development board. It uses the popular ESP8266 module and puts it into a fully fledged development board.
