This IOT LAB BOOK is primarily compiled to support the university courses on Internet of Things: Systems Design at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. But you can follow the tutorials without attending the course. This lab book guides you through a series of labs. Each lab has its objectives. It is expected that you should be able to complete each lab session within two hours (most of the time, much less). This lab book does assume that you have some amount of networking knowledge. Further, it is important to mention that IoT, by nature, is a broad subject. Therefore, in a few lab sessions, we cannot teach you all the topics in-depth. For example, Arduino programming use C/C++ programming languages. However, we do not expect you to be an expert on C/C++ to follow the lab session. However, if you have some background, you will find some known concepts in action and feel comfortable. If you have never seen C/C++ before, you will, of course, feel nervous and sometimes will feel lost.

This book covers key topics in the emerging field of plasmonic MEMS, with an emphasis on practical aspects. Although readers can find many comprehensive textbooks on electromagnetic waves, nanophotonics and plasmonics, most of these lack the focus needed for a thorough grasp of plasmonic micromachining and MEMS. Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) is the technology of integrated mechanical and electro-mechanical micro-elements on a single chip. The micro-scale moving components of MEMS devices can be readily and robustly fabricated using the well-developed micro/nano fabrication techniques. Mechanical displacement in MEMS devices can be obtained via external electrical actuation. MEMS technology aims to revolutionize nearly every product group by substituting sensors, actuators, detectors, and gears with micrometer-scale equivalents. One of the main reasons for the development of MEMS technology in recent years, is the drastic reduction of the size of the device components along with the additional and complemented mechanical modulation functionality which can enable tunable on-chip sensors and actuators. MEMS can provide microstructures in a variety of desirable shapes and sizes with critical future size of micro or nano meter along with significant mechanical tunability.

This manual is to accompany the textbook Principles of Electronic Communications Systems (PECS), fifth edition. That text was written to support a one- or two-semester course in the fundamentals of communications systems including wireless and networking, both analog and digital. The text is written at the technology level and provides coverage for both 2-year community college and technical school programs through 4-year bachelor of technology programs. This manual serves as a supplement to the text and provides practical student activities as well as laboratory experiments, given the appropriate equipment. Lab experiments are projects using actual electronic and/or computer hardware to demonstrate and validate key theoretical concepts. The goal is to provide a minimum of true hands-on practice with real test equipment, components, and related hardware. Most colleges have adequate lab equipment for teaching basic electronics as well as digital circuits and microcomputers. However, few have suitable lab equipment for teaching communications hardware. It is typically more expensive than basic instruments and trainers and can certainly be more difficult to use. Working with RF circuits and equipment is particularly challenging.
